Overcoming the stigma of 'disability' | Nivedhita R | TEDxPSGRKCW

video thumbnail
Physical Disability is very hard to accept when it strikes unexpectedly. Nivedhita R lost her sight at the tender age of 15 years. She speaks about overcoming the challenges associated with the stigma of ‘disability’. She thinks the only way forward is by accepting the condition. This helps in thinking ahead and living a full life. Being dependent is difficult, but isn't everyone dependent on each other in some way or the other? Asking for help is not a sign of weakness, but an act of courage. Nivedhita Radhakrishnan is an Assistant Professor in English literature and has qualified NET. I’m also a national and international classical dance performer. I was awarded ‘KalaiValarMani’ by the government of Tamil Nadu. I have been entitled to ‘Natiaperoli’ and ‘Natiamangai’. I have received the award, of the best outgoing student, in school and the best all-rounder at PSG college of Arts and Science. I enjoy debating, I’ve won several awards in elocutions and an avid reader of English classics. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
