The Sky Didn't Fall: How I Learned to Call Out Racism | Susan Naimark | TEDxJamaicaPlain

video thumbnail
Creating truly just and equitable communities requires us to address the deep legacy of racism in the United States, according to Susan Naimark, author and educator. In this powerfully honest talk, Susan shares her story of how her assumptions and understanding of race, racism and her own unearned privileges as a white person developed and evolved over time. Equally important, she talks about the benefits to her own wellbeing as a white person that come with the commitment to challenge racism.

Susan Naimark is a nationally recognized educator on race, racism and white privilege, the author of The Education of a White Parent [www.educationofawhiteparent.com], and a faculty member at University of Massachusetts Boston School of Education. Her trainings on implicit bias, community building, cultural proficiency and institutional racism have supported tens of thousands of people across the U.S. to engage constructively across the differences that too often divide us.

This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx
