The Bundesliga, also known as the Federal League in English, is a professional association football league in Germany. It is considered the primary football competition in Germany and sits at the top of the German football league system. The Bundesliga consists of 18 teams and follows a promotion and relegation system with the 2. Bundesliga. The season typically runs from August to May, with games taking place on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. All Bundesliga clubs participate in the DFB-Pokal cup competition, and the winner of the Bundesliga qualifies for the DFL-Supercup.

Since its establishment, a total of 56 clubs have competed in the Bundesliga. Bayern Munich has been the most successful team, winning 32 out of 60 titles, including the last eleven seasons, which is a European record. Other notable champions in the Bundesliga's history include Borussia Dortmund, Hamburger SV, Werder Bremen, Borussia Mönchengladbach, and VfB Stuttgart. The Bundesliga ranks as one of the top national leagues in Europe, currently holding the third position in UEFA's league coefficient ranking for the 2022-23 season based on performances in European competitions over the past five seasons. The Bundesliga previously held the top position in the UEFA ranking from 1976 to 1984 and in 1990. German clubs have also achieved success in European competitions, winning numerous UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, European Cup Winners' Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, and Intercontinental Cup titles. Additionally, Bundesliga players have received individual accolades such as the Ballon d'Or, The Best FIFA Men's Player, European Golden Shoe, and UEFA Men's Player of the Year awards, including the UEFA Club Footballer of the Year.

In terms of average attendance, the Bundesliga is the world's number one association football league. During the 2011-12 season, it had an average of 45,134 fans per game, making it the second-highest among all sports leagues globally, behind the American National Football League. The Bundesliga is broadcasted on television in over 200 countries.

The Bundesliga was established in 1962 in Dortmund, and its first season began in 1963-64. Over the years, the structure and organization of the Bundesliga, along with Germany's other football leagues, have undergone several changes. While initially founded by the German Football Association (Deutscher Fußball-Bund), the Bundesliga is now operated by the German Football League (Deutsche Fußball Liga).
