Sheila Houlahan, Mezzo-soprano Celebrate Asia Friday, May 12, 2017 The Indian composer A.R. Rahman (b. 1967) has been a central figure in South Asian film music since the 1990s. Rahman’s biggest American breakthrough came in 2008 with Slumdog Millionaire, the story of a boy who escapes life in a Mumbai slum and ends up on a TV quiz show. Rahman’s contributions earned him Academy Awards for Best Original Score and Best Original Song, and the film took the Oscar for Best Picture. A.R. Rahman was the featured composer at the Seattle Symphony's Celebrate Asia concert. |
