Stephen Hawking, the English theoretical physicist who transformed how we understand the universe, is dead at 76. Raymond Laflamme studied for his PhD n theoretical physics under Hawking at the University of Cambridge. and continued to work with him when Hawking was named the distinguished research chair at the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics in Waterloo, Ont. Laflamme reflects on the news of Hawking’s death.
