2019 VW Golf | The Forgotten Hatchback |
|
Thanks to my day job at Kelley Blue Book, I drive and review lots of cars. Today I’m driving a 2019 VW Golf. That’s right. Volkswagen still sells their Golf hatchback…though they don’t sell many of them these days. The 2019 Golf likely represents the end of the line for VW’s 7th generation hatch. With a new Volkswagen Golf due to arrive soon does it make any sense to buy the current model? It’s a question I wrestle with during my commute in this red Golf test car.
Despite being near the end of its life cycle, the 2019 VW Golf was endowed with improvements for this model year including new safety equipment and a standard 1.4-liter turbocharged engine borrowed from the VW Jetta. Of course, the real draw for Golf aficionados is the car’s lively handling and impeccably flexible interior. To be honest, I was charmed by the 2019 Golf’s practical yet fun nature. But was I charmed enough to actually recommend buying one? Watch and find out. And just so the premise is ultra-clear, this is not a comprehensive review but rather a casual look at the 2019 VW Golf, while I live my normal life. Simple.
