Octavian, better known by his honorary name Augustus, inherited the murdered autocrat Caesar. Octavian avenged his adoptive father, pursued the murderers, expropriated and liquidated them and ended the civil war with cunning and the most brutal violence in order to become ruler of the empire himself. As Octavian he had disobeyed and broken all the laws of the Republic. But as Augustus in 27 B.C. the republic was restored, he wrote in his will. Behind the facade of the "Restored Republic" and under the title of Princeps, he established an autocratic empire. But he also made peace; it received its name: Pax Augusta. He integrated the subjugated peoples into the empire. Justice and prosperity reigned again. But who should be his successor after the actual end of the republic as emperor? Two women fought for themselves and their children. Julia, daughter of Augustus and his third wife Livia Drusilla.
