My journey to the Faroe Islands started off 3 days later since my flight into the country was cancelled until the weather cleared. Luckily for me, it did and I spent a lot of my time in Tórshavn, the capital of the Faroe Islands. The city has a population of 13,083 which comprises roughly a quarter of the total population of the Faroe.

This city capital has a bit of everything: an old town containing turf houses, reminiscent of the Faroese past, churches like the Tórshavn Cathedral and Vesturkirkjan, the fort and lighthouse at Skansin, as well as the seat of the Faroese government on the Tinganes peninsula. The Norse established their parliament on the Tinganes peninsula in 850 AD. I was glad that the weather was pretty clear for me to fly my drone and get some great shots of the city.

Drone laws in Faroe Islands: In order to fly your drone in Faroe, you should have a A1/A3 certification in the OPEN category in any EU member state (I have one from Sweden). This allows you to fly (under certain restrictions) within other EU countries. The standard rules apply such as flying within visual line of sight, not flying at night, only 120 meters in elevation, and not over crowds or sensitive infrastructure. Furthermore, other restrictions may also be enacted by the Danish Transport Authority. Generally though, flights should not be taken with 150 meters of a village and anywhere that have signs posted forbidding drones.
