Siren / Nuages / The Rain Song |

Here's the full video of my arrangement of Django Reinhardt's Nuages from my album "On Track" featuring Simon Smith on double bass.
Although Nuages is often considered an uplifting tune I've always thought of it as being melancholic and sad. The way the melody descends and grinds to a halt sounds so heavy to me. Django wrote this tune at the beginning of World War 2 and I've often wondered if this is the reason for it's melancholic nature. It must have been an incredibly scary time for him living in France back then. So I decided to try and come up with an arrangement of this tune to reflect the time when it was composed. Siren, Nuages and The Rain Song were all part of a single take which we decided to split into 3 tracks for the release. This is the whole lead guitar performance as it was recorded. Siren is a short intro and represents the air raid sirens heard at that time, this is to give the feeling that something foreboding is imminent overhead. The melancholic, dark and slightly dissonant arrangement of Nuages (translated to "clouds" in English) represents the feeling of the war, the clouds that descend overhead and everything becomes overcast and grey. And finally the outro is a short section from Led Zeppelin's The Rain Song. I've always loved this tune and I thought this short section worked well as an outro to represent the end of the war, the clouds finally release their tension and the rain comes to wash everything away. That was the original meaning behind it all anyway. Hope you like it Cheers ππ My Website - https://www.remiharris.com/ #remiharris #yardbirdarts |
