We Hold These Truths: How Verified Content Defends Democracies |
|
The free flow of information and trust in its authenticity are essential pillars of a democratic society. Yet cheapfakes, deepfakes, and generative artificial intelligence are already being maliciously employed to undermine public confidence in traditional sources of news and government information. Given the sustained attack on democracy-sustaining institutions by those who want to undermine democratic norms and sow societal divisions in the United States and across the globe, the public needs tools to help independently verify whether a piece of content is one they can trust.
The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is holding an event titled “We Hold These Truths: How Verified Content Defends Democracies” on March 27. This event will take place just before the 2023 Summit for Democracy and will highlight the potential for new tools to establish authenticity standards in media and online content. The event will also demonstrate some active use cases of content provenance standards developed by the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity and Content Authenticity Initiative. --------------------------------------------- A nonpartisan institution, CSIS is the top national security think tank in the world.
