CSIS Urban Legends Series: U.S. Cities as Foreign Policy Leaders

video thumbnail
The majority of the human population, including eight in ten people in the United States, live in cities. As the global population urbanizes, cities have become increasingly important influencers in building international relationships and attracting foreign investment. American cities, in particular, have taken a more active role on issues from climate change to urban transportation. This event will explore this subnational foreign policy and what role it may play in the coming years.

CSIS welcomes Deputy Mayor for International Affairs of Los Angeles Nina Hachigian and Representative Ted Lieu (D-CA-33) to a discussion on the importance of U.S. cities in shaping foreign policy. The armchair discussion will showcase urban centers’ growing role in national foreign policy and explore opportunities to promote greater U.S. diplomacy at the subnational level abroad.

This event is made possible through general support to CSIS.
