Shedding our Leaves: Living with Lightness & Freedom | Dharma talk by Sr Thuận Nghiêm - 2020.10.08 |

How do you prepare for Winter, or for the difficulties that may arise at any time in our lives?
In this dharma talk offered on a Lay Day during our 90-day Autumn Rains Retreat, senior dharma teacher Sr. Thuận Nghiêm shares her delight in observing and learning from nature, and asks us if we've ever considered why many trees shed their leaves in the Autumn. She explains that this helps the tree conserve its energy and weather Winter storms without being uprooted or split by high winds. When we come to the monastery to enjoy three months of focused practice, or simply want to make a decision to live our daily life with more peace and freedom, what "leaves" of habit, suffering, or wasted energy do we need to shed? What should we prioritize, and what will support us in taking this step? Sr. Thuận Nghiêm shares how to come back to ourselves to make our homes warm and clean, both through formal sitting meditation and by strengthening ourselves with the practice of the Five Mindfulness Trainings in our daily life. https://plumvillage.org/mindfulness-practice/the-5-mindfulness-trainings/ * * You can support us by: - donating: https://plumvillage.org/support - helping to caption & translate this video: https://amara.org/v/C2wcT/ |
