In this ted talk, Yoneshou highlights the delicate balance between normalizing mental health and the potential dangers of romanticizing it, particularly in the context of social media. The focus is on the "sad girl aesthetic," which emerged as an online phenomenon that, while initially serving as a support system for those facing mental health struggles, eventually evolved into the glorification of poor mental health. The speaker shares a personal experience of identifying with this aesthetic, to the point where it became an integral part of their identity. They emphasize the challenge of breaking free from the comfort of this identity, which hindered their healing journey and made seeking help difficult. The talk concludes by highlighting the internal mold one can find themselves trapped in, emphasizing the importance of recognizing and addressing these internal molds alongside external societal expectations. Meet Yone Shou, a dynamic changemaker and visionary in the realm of Model United Nations (MUN). With a plethora of accomplishments under her belt, Yone Shou's journey from a Model UN Club Captain to becoming the Head Adjudicator at NPSi Law Con is nothing short of awe-inspiring. As the Secretary General at The Hague International Model United Nations (THIMUN) Foundation, Yone Shou's leadership acumen has garnered global recognition. Having spoken at the prestigious United Nations Peace Day event, she continues to be a beacon of hope for civil rights and social action. Her dedication to education is evident through her role as a Lead Mentor and MUN@Home Outreach Specialist, where she has pioneered the growth of an educational program that fosters MUN skills in students worldwide.
