On March 19th, Dr. Alan M. Sears—a professor of social studies and citizenship education at the University of New Brunswick—led the discussion about measuring citizenship in part two of the Measuring What Matters webinar series. The discussion explored the following three questions:

1. What does education for citizenship mean to you?
2. What would you accept as evidence that schools are effectively promoting citizenship? What should students know and be able to do that demonstrates their learning about citizenship?
3. What are the pros and cons of setting goals for our schools in the area of citizenship, and finding ways to measure progress toward those goals?
