Since 1994, North Carolina has seen at least 90 cases of missing or murdered indigenous women. Just this spring, Governor Cooper declared May 5, 2020 to be a “Day of Awareness for Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women.” Leaders in the MMIW movement Nicki Faircloth (Lumbee/Tuscarora), Jane Eagle Heart Jacobs (Cape Fear Tuscarora), Crystal Red Bear Cavalier (Occaneechi Band of the Saponi Nation), Antionette Kerr and discuss this underreported issue with moderator Erika Reynolds (Cherokee, Saura and Arawak).
