EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE: In China, years before the events of the film, Evelyn Quan Wang (Michelle Yeoh) falls in love with Waymond Wang (Key Huy Quan) and, against her father's objections, elopes to the United States. The couple open a laundromat, and have a daughter, Joy (Stephanie Hsu), who becomes rebellious and begins to drift from the family as she reaches adulthood.
