Pierre Gasly says he “appreciates” the recent confirmation from Christian Horner that he remains in the picture for a Red Bull drive in 2023.

The Frenchman is set to spend a third consecutive full year in 2022 with AlphaTauri, who have confirmed he and Yuki Tsunoda are retaining their places. Beyond that, the future is uncertain for Gasly. His impressive single-lap pace this season suggests he has outgrown Alpha Tauri, consistently qualifying in the top six. Sergio Perez has another one-year contract with Red Bull in 2022 but the position alongside Max Verstappen is anybody’s for 2023 including Gasly, who was dropped from that seat after a disappointing first half of the 2019 campaign in favour of Alex Albon. When recently asked about Gasly’s prospects, Horner, the Red Bull team principal, said:

“I would never rule anything out. For 2023, we have multiple options available to us. Pierre has done a phenomenal job with Alpha Tauri the last couple of seasons. He remains a Red Bull driver on loan to Alpha Tauri.”

While talking to the RACE, Gasly has said although his original stint at Red Bull “was just never going to work”, he is grateful for Horner’s suggestion that he remains very much in the mix to potentially return as an improved version of himself.
“Obviously I really appreciate these words, to see my work is valued and seen by Christian. So, yeah, you know, we still have a lot of time [left]. At the moment, the focus is on Red Bull to get the World Championship this year. They have another shot at it next year with a big regulation change. And my job will be to keep showing them I have the potential to deliver the job there, and we’ll see what will happen for 2023.”
