The Taliban has claimed it has completed its takeover of Afghanistan. Panjshir valley, north east of Kabul, was the last area held by resistance forces. The Taliban has pledged to not retaliate against the valley's residents, who are ethnically distinct from the group. Senior US officials are heading to the region to discuss the new regime. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is in Qatar. He is expected to speak about efforts to reopen Kabul's airport, so that badly needed humanitarian aid can be flown in.
