Former BBC Radio 1 DJ Annie Macmanus has revealed that there is a "tidal wave" of sexual abuse cases in the music industry
Macmanus told MPs that an "unbelievable" number of stories have not yet emerged, and that the music business is "a boys' club" with a system rigged against women.
Many women fear for their careers if they speak out about misconduct or abuses of power.
Macmanus believes that there needs to be a shift in women feeling like they are able to speak out without their careers being compromised.
Macmanus explained that she had spoken to a range of female agents, managers, producers, photographers, artists, and fellow DJs.
She found common threads that run through everything she've heard, such as women, especially young women in the music industry, being consistently underestimated and undermined, and freelance women being put in situations where they are unsafe.
Singer and former X Factor contestant Rebecca Ferguson also gave evidence to MPs, who are conducting an inquiry into misogyny in the music industry.
She said that bullying and corruption are being allowed to happen, and men in senior positions had asked security staff to infiltrate and purposely ruin romantic relationships.
She witnessed other performers being encouraged to engage in messages of a sexual nature with each other.
Mcmanus said that the most worrying aspect is the rapes that are going unreported, as women feel like they can't speak up.
