What the West Needs to Know About Russia’s War in Ukraine

After nearly a month of bloodshed in Ukraine, a ceasefire agreement with Russia remains an elusive goal. This week Polish, Czech, and Slovenian leaders visited Kyiv to show European support for Ukraine’s fight for freedom and independence. But Russian atrocities in Ukraine continue to mount and experts suspect the worst is yet to come. Join us for a discussion with experts from Ukraine and Russia to better understand the situation on the ground in both countries, and how Ukraine sees the West’s role in resolving this conflict.

About the speakers:

Maria Avdeeva is Research Director at the European Expert Association in Ukraine. She focuses on international security, Ukraine-EU relations and emerging security challenges. In addition, she analyses information operations, efforts to counter disinformation, and threats to democracy.

Olena Halushka serves as a board member for the Ukraine-based Anti-Corruption Action Center. An avid writer and political commentator, her works can be found in outlets such as The Washington Post, the Atlantic, Foreign Policy, EUobserver, and the Kyiv Post.

Eka Tkeshelashvili is the Head of USAID flagship Anti-Corruption Program in Ukraine. The overall objective of the Project is to improve implementation of anti-corruption policy in Ukraine and thereby ultimately contributing to a reduction of corruption. Until Recently Eka Tkeshelasvhili served as the Head of Program of European Anti-Corruption Initiative (EUACI) in Ukraine.

Olga Khvostunova is a journalist, researcher, and political analyst. She holds a PhD from the Moscow State University’s School of Journalism and is a coauthor of Media and Politics (2007) and Media in Changing Russia (2010). She has worked at the Institute of Modern Russia since 2011.

Maia Otarashvili is a Research Fellow and Deputy Director of the Eurasia Program.
