Eyewitness and handout video from the White Helmets showed heavy flooding in the Syrian village of Al'Tloul, Syria, on Thursday (February 9), after heavy rains swelled the river in the outskirts of the Turkish-Syrian border.
Shielded from 12 years of civil war, Al-Tloul has been rocked by Monday's (February 6) huge earthquake and ensuing flooding that has pushed out nearly all of its inhabitants, residents said. A small dam near the village collapsed early on Thursday one resident told Reuters, covering fields and filling homes with knee-high murky brown water. The earthquake has so far killed more than 3,200 people in Syria, nearly 2,000 in the northwest of the country that was already devastated by a humanitarian crisis and years of bombardment by the Syrian government and its allies. Almost no outside help has come to the northwest since the earthquake, with the first U.N. aid convoy comprised of six trucks entering Thursday morning, contrasting starkly with a huge international effort in neighbouring Turkey. #turkeyearthquake2023 #syria #floods #englishnewslive n18oc_world |
