U.S now Kenya's top trade partner outside East Africa |
|
The United States is now Kenya's most valuable economic partner outside of East Africa, strengthening its position as the third largest export destination. Exports to the USA grew by 7% to 35.3 billion shillings in the first 10 months of 2016, while dropping by the same margin for the UK market. This is according to data from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics. Uganda still remains Kenya's biggest trade partner, although Kenyan exports to the East African region as a whole recorded an 11 billion shilling decline in the third quarter of 2016. KNBS has attributed the growth of the US market to the renewal of the African Growth Opportunity Act.
