Over the decades, Mereana Pitman has protested strongly against the government and Crown. The Ngāti Kahungnu leader was always a staunch advocate for iwi, hapu and whānau rights. But today she was honoured by the Crown with an MNZM for Services to Māori and family violence prevention. Te Okiwa McLean reports.
