Alfa Romeo’s long and storied history of building performance-oriented cars includes plenty of quirks, and the new Stelvio midsize crossover lives up to the Alfa name in both ways. It looks great inside and out, its cabin is very comfortable, and it drives well, but its infotainment system needs work. It offers some nice modern features, like multiple drive modes, but cargo space and mileage aren’t great. The first versions of the Stelvio to arrive in the U.S. will get a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder with 280 hp and 306 lb-ft of torque. The upcoming Quadrifoglio trim will use a twin-turbocharged V6 with 505 hp that will get it from 0-60 in 3.9 seconds on the way to a 177-mph top speed. The Stelvio’s infotainment system works out of a screen on the dash within easy reach of the driver and front passenger, but it’s not a touchscreen and requires more steps to get simple things done than it should. And the safety-system warnings are too loud, though owners can adjust volume.
