A Back to Basics Guitar Lesson this week.
This week I show you how two simple six note scale fragments can be used to build long Pentatonic passages that will fit all kinds of real music. Mr Crowley: Ozzie Osborne (Randy Rhodes), Chinatown: Thin Lizzy, Good Times Bad Times: Led Zeppelin all are great examples of it, and no doubt you can provide more! Learning to improvise on the guitar is one of the most creative and rewarding things that you can do. The big challenge for a beginner though, is to bridge the gap between just playing scales and playing the music that is actually inside of you. Making music with the pentatonic scale is a great way to start because it is one of the fundamental building blocks of pretty much any musical style and can be used as a stepping stone to develop a full musical vocabulary. |
