Top-selling Toyota RAV4 Hybrid has huge appeal in top-shelf form – but it ain’t perfect

Does the 2024 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid deserve to be Australia’s best mid-size SUV? We put it to the test in a wide range of conditions and it’s certainly a very impressive in isolation – especially in flagship Edge guise.

But as large numbers of Aussies continue to seek the warm embrace of a new Toyota – arguably one of the safest new-vehicle purchases today thanks to strong reliability and resale values – RAV4 buyers are also facing extended delivery wait times while there are plenty of other great mid-size SUV options out there.

While Toyota promises to reduce wait times to 12 months by April, some customers have waited up to three years and the current wait time is 18 months, and in the meantime orders are not protected against upgrade-related price hikes – and an all-new RAV4 isn’t far away.

So the RAV4’s popularity continues to be a blessing and a curse for both Toyota and its customers, but is it worth the wait? We sent Feann Torr to find out.
