Mercedes have decided to replace Valtteri Bottas with the Williams Driver George Russel at the British Grand Prix in Silverstone. But Why? The Finnish driver Valtteri Bottas, who drove alongside Lewis Hamilton for the past 5 years, has not got up to the team's expectations. Mercedes and Redbull as going toe to toe in both the drivers and Constructors championship of 2021. The poor performance of Valtteri from the start of the season has caused some serious damage to the title hopes of Mercedes. I have already discussed the importance of the second driver in the team for climbing up the constructor's championship ladder in the previous video of mine, which will be linked in the I card. As Hamilton is not performing up to the mark as expected and the very marginal performing Valtteri is haunting Mercedes's title hopes. So, the management of the Mercedes team and the team principal Toto wolf have decided to give the Young British driver, George Russel a chance to drive the title competing car at the British Grand Prix.

George Russel joined the Williams Formula 1 team for the 2019 season, along with Robert Kubica, after his impressive Formula 2 season of 2018, when he won the championship. He is also a driver under Toto Wolf's management. When Lewis Hamilton was diagnosed for Covid - 19 at the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix, George was given a chance to make a one-off appearance for Mercedes. He consistently stood ahead of the bottas at every corner and led the race for a very long time. But the tragic pitstop error from the Mercedes pit crew and rear left puncture at the last stages of the races cost him the victory, which was eventually won by Sergio Perez, who got his first win in Formula One. So, Russel in his first outing with Mercedes has proven his worth and he deserves a seat at the top team, after spending 3 years with Williams as a backmarker. Bottas on the other hand is seriously struggling this season. He is currently 6th in the driver's championship. The most important thing to note here, both the red bull drivers are ahead of him. There are still 3 races ahead of us before the British Grand Prix, If Valterri continuously performs exceptionally and preferable even outscore Hamilton, he can have some chances in retaining his seat in Mercedes. Or else, he should occupy Russel's Williams seat or maybe even seatless for the rest of the season. That's it for today's video, hope you guys liked it.
