Mehdi Hassan and Ghulam Ali are two of the biggest names in the world of Ghazals. Ghazals are traditionally Urdu rhymes or Urdu Shayeri sung in a melodic verse by poets or singers.

A Traditional Ghazal is a poetic form consisting of rhyming couplets. This compilation “Ghazal- For the First Time Together-VOL-2” is a very rare and unique live album where these two Ghazal maestros that is Mehdi Hassan and Ghulam Ali came together for the first ever Mehdi Hassan Ghulam Ali Live concert. Traditionally Ghazals were written and composed in the most eloquent Urdu language. These Urdu Shayeris were only meant for the well educated and well read section of the society. But gradually Ghazals left the courtyard of the kings and made its mark amidst the masses. The two Ghazal maestros from this compilation namely Mehdi Hassan and Ghulam Ali played pivotal roles in popularizing these Urdu songs.

The first singer in this album is Mehdi Hassan who is also known as the Ghazal King. Mehdi Hassan who is originally from the British India later on migrated to Pakistan. Mehdi Hassan claims to be the 16th generation of hereditary musicians hailing from the Kalawant clan of musicians. Mehdi hassan is known for his baritone voice and the typical stylization of his voice where he infused various classical and semi classical formats to create what is known as the Mehdi Hassan effect. In this compilation Mehdi Hassan has sung some memorable Ghazals. One such rendition is “Kesariya Balam” where one can hear the popular “Mehdi Hassan Magic”.

The other artist in this compilation is the very famous Ghazal Singer, Ghulam Ali. Ghulam Ali was born in undivided Punjab which now is in Pakistan. Ghulam Ali belongs to the Qual Bachon Gharana. Ghulam Ali is a noted desciple of the legendary Khayal maestro Bade Ghulam Ali Khan Saheeb. Ghulam Ali or Chote Ghulam Ali ( as he is fondly known) is a noted Ghazal singer who is known mostly for popularising Ghazals through films. Ghulam Ali has sung for many films both from India and Pakistan and many of his Ghazals have become super duper hit. In this live concert Ghulam Ali has sung some very popular hit Ghazals. The most popular among them would be “Ka Karoon Sajani”. This song is possibly the most sung Ghazal in this South Asian sub continent.
