The Romans who settled in China

video thumbnail
In 1957, Homer H. Dubs, a professor of Chinese history, suggested that the people of Liqian, in China, were descendants of a group of Roman legionaries, who were taken as prisoners after Crassus' loss in the Battle of Carrhae. The theory suggests that the prisoners were transported all the way to the eastern border of the Parthian Empire, later fought in the Battle of Zhizhi, where Chinese chroniclers mention a so-called "fish-scale formation", which Dubs believed referred to the classic Roman Testudo Formation. This Theory is considered to be just a "rural myth" since, until this day, no artifacts which might confirm a Roman presence have been discovered near Liqian.
