Garmisch-Partenkirchen all three downhill slopes: Kandahar, Olympia & Hausberg |
|
This video shows the three major slopes down to Garmisch-Partenkirchen of the Garmisch Classic skie area - starting from Kreuzjoch mountain 1,690 m (5,545 ft) which is the official start of the world famous Kandahar downhill race. The video will take you down the valley runs of the Kandahar race slope as well as the Olympia slope - both ending at the Kreuzeck cable car valley station, as well as down the Hausberg (Kochelberg Abfahrt) to the Hausberg cable car and parking lot. Finally, it provides an insight in Bayrisch (the Bavarian dialect), with subtitles in English & German.
The Kandahar is a Garmisch Classic ski area World Cup downhill ski course in southern Germany located in Bavaria in the ski area of the Zugspitze above Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The Kandahar starts at Kreuzjoch as slope 5 with Starthang and Tröglhang followed by two options: slopes 5a & 5b. Alternatively, one can ski down the more family friendly Olympia (slope 4) which will also end up at the Kreuzeck cable car valley station. In order to end up at the Hausberg valley station, one needs to traverse a couple of times and take slope 1 Kochelberg). The Horn run (slope 2) is another option which meats the Kochelbreg slope at the end - however, many times there is not enough snow that the Horn slope is open.
