Why Has The Government Banned TikTok On Government Devices?

video thumbnail
The Australian government has announced it's banning TikTok on government devices. We're the latest on a growing list of countries to make the move following fears the app's security isn't up to scratch. Canada's done it, the US has done it, New Zealand and the UK's done it. And now it's our turn.

TIKTOK BAN
This morning the Aussie government confirmed that TikTok is set to be banned on all government devices following a big review by our Department of Home Affairs. TikTok is owned by ByteDance, a Chinese company, and there are fears that it could give information about its users to the Chinese government. TikTok says it's not a threat and has called the decision extremely disappointing. For now, each state government can decide if they'll follow the federal government's lead with Victoria and the ACT announcing they'll make the change. And federal politicians and government employees are still allowed to use the app on their personal phones. Although some, including federal minister Bill Shorten and Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews, have decided they're going to completely delete their accounts on what's become a very controversial app.

DONALD TRUMP
Former US president Donald Trump has landed in New York City to face criminal charges. He'll spend the night at Trump Tower before making the journey downtown to the city's arraignment court, where he'll find out just what charges he's facing. It's all over allegedly falsifying business records in the lead up to the 2016 election, which the former president denies. There's a small group of protestors that have gathered outside the tower and a lot of media are waiting to catch a glimpse.

ARTEMIS ASTRONAUTS
NASA has named the four astronauts who will fly around the Moon late next year! Christina Koch, Jeremy Hansen, Victor Glover and Reid Wiseman are all heading to the moon. This mission, called Artemis 2, is the first lunar mission in more than 50 years and the firsts don't stop there. Reid Wiseman, the mission commander, will be joined by Christina Koch who will become the first woman to go to the moon. Victor Glover, the pilot, will be the first Africa American to go on a lunar mission. And Jeremy Hanson is going to be the first member of a moon crew from outside the US, he's from just over the border in Canada. Together they will be the first people to fly in NASA's Orion capsule, which is a new spacecraft built to take humans further into space than ever before. Artemis 2 will head off in late 2024 and while it won't actually land on the moon. The crew will fly around it in a mission that is sure to go down in history.

DEEP FISH RECORD
Scientists have broken the world record for the deepest fish ever caught. This pair of squishy looking snailfish were collected from a whopping 8,022 metres deep, just off the coast of Japan. If that wasn't enough the same team also broke the record for deepest fish ever filmed on camera. Capturing these guys who were about 8336 metres below the water.

TWITTER LOGO
Moving right along to the second part of this triathlon and Twitter appears to be cycling through logos. The famous blue bird has been replaced with an image of dogecoins cartoon dog. It's no secret Twitter CEO, Elon Musk, is a fan of the cryptocurrency Dogecoin and he addressed the change with this tweet of a year old conversation, in which another twitter user suggested that musk buy twitter and change the bird logo to a doge.

PARENT RACE
A parent running race at a school sports day in Jamaica has been won easily by triple Olympic sprint champion, Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce. AKA the third fastest woman of all time.
