Global Ministries/UMCOR engages with refugees and other immigrants in the United States primarily in partnership with Church World Service and/or National Justice for Our Neighbors. Church World Service, an ecumenical agency, is one of eight organizations certified by the federal government to resettle refugees. NJFON, founded by UMCOR in 1997 and now separately incorporated, offers free congregation-based legal services to immigrants. Four ethnic/racial or language ministry plans also deal with migration issues. Global Ministries' international work with migrants is direct service or in collaboration with other humanitarian agencies.
