As expected, on Thursday, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed the controversial elections bill SB90.

The purpose of the Republican-backed bill is to impose regulations on ballot drop boxes, restrict third-party voter registration organizations, and place new voting rules by mail.

The Governor banned all media from attending the bill signing except for Fox News.

During a press conference in Panama City Beach, DeSantis was asked why he barred all other media outlets.

The new law goes into effect immediately but will face heavy opposition in court.

Moments after DeSantis signed SB90 on Fox, the League of Women Voters of Florida filed a 69-page lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Tallahassee.

The federal suit claims the bill's provisions make it harder for Floridians to cast ballots "with a disproportionate impact on elderly voters, voters with disabilities, students, and communities of color."

More than 20 local and national groups have threatened to file lawsuits over the contentious bill.
