Should you pursue a DBA in Management or a PhD in Management? The answer is determined by your interests and career objectives. Both degrees represent the pinnacle of academic achievement and are highly valued in both the academic and business worlds. There are, however, distinctions. The DBA is a professional doctorate, whereas the PhD is an academic doctorate. Both are advanced research degrees that require original research, data analysis, and the production of significant findings.

PhD research focuses on the development of theories, the filling of gaps between theories, or the filling of gaps in the general body of knowledge. If you want to be a professor in higher education or a researcher in a research center, a PhD may be a better choice.

DBAs, on the other hand, focus on real-world organizational and business problems and conduct both original and secondary research to investigate, examine, and address those problems. The DBA is primarily intended for those who wish to pursue a career in business or consulting. Many DBAs, however, teach in colleges and universities.
