Bruce Lee’s name is synonymous with kung fu action movies. It doesn’t matter if you live in Hong Kong or the United States, you’ve likely heard of him. His star continued to rise until his sudden death. The world was shocked and even erected a statue in his honor. His son unfortunately suffered a similar fate. He was fatally wounded on the set of The Crow by a prop gun that was accidentally loaded with actual bullets.

Bruce does have a living daughter, Shannon. She was only four when he died, so she doesn’t have many specific, vivid memories of their time together. What she does remember is his energy. He trained his mind the same way he trained his body and taught them to do the same. She also feels that the world has misremembered him. He doesn’t fit into any box that Hollywood tries to stick Asian men into. He’s not helpless or hypermasculine. He’s inclusive of other cultures but proud of his own. He was a unique soul that the world will never see the likes of again.

That’s why Shannon, who is also a mother, actress, and martial artist, works to keep his legacy alive. She set up a foundation in his honor to help teach children kung fu. She created a series called Warrior based on one of his ideas. She also bequeathed his Instagram account to her daughter. This helps her feel close to her grandfather and helps their efforts to keep his true legacy alive.
