The growth in the rapid usage of social media has made the average person more predisposed to witnessing forms of discrimination. Being motivated by her own experiences, Melis’ talk provides awareness on her own ground-breaking research on why people are not willing to take action against discrimination. This research focuses on how witnessing discrimination can motivate people to take action for ethnic, racial or gender justice. Through this talk we learn about the specific steps needed in order to motivate others, as well as ourselves, to take affirmative action. As a social psychologist, Melis' informative talk aims to contribute to the possible solutions to one of the urgent problems of our community with the research she is doing by sharing some of the important research findings with the TEDx community.
