In a statement on Instagram, Amber Heard says that “[a]fter a great deal of deliberation I have made a very difficult decision to settle the defamation case..” She makes clear that she could not emotionally or financially sustain further legal proceedings and that even if her appeal was successful, she would only face another trial. She praises the UK legal system (really the English legal system…but it is what she says) as being robust, impartial, and fair while stating she has lost faith in the American legal system where popularity and power mattered more than reason and due process…. While the settlement of judgments is always possible, I suspected any settlement, in this case, would come before the appeal was initiated. Though the appeal did serve as hundreds of pages of re-telling Heard’s side of this story. What do you think?
