Citizenship in an Age of Democratic Decline | Leighton McCamy-Miller | TEDxYouth@SHC

video thumbnail
In his talk, McCamy-Miller explores how problems that have long festered in American society are intensifying and how solutions are hindered by bad political actors and deep cultural divides. To reverse these trends and save America's democracy, McCamy-Miller advocates for a revitalization of civic education. Leighton Miller is a senior at the Branson school in Marin. Deeply disturbed by the January 6th riots, Leighton embarked on a fellowship project funded by his school to study what makes up responsible citizenship and how schools can better prepare students for their civic lives. Leighton interviewed a dozen national experts and investigated leading organizations in the civic education space and shared his findings with his school in a report. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
