Serrated knives can be tricky to sharpen. You need the right tool for the job and that is where round ceramics or diamond rods work great. Using a curved abrasive allows you to reach in-between the teeth of the serrations.

Place the rod so that it fits between each tooth an match the factory angle. Move the knife up and down on the rod, keeping it in each valley to restore each tooth along the knife. Once you have worked your way all the way down the knife, flip the knife over and draw the back of the blade across the rod to remove any remaining burr.
