Having discussed their managerial vacancy in the summer, Tottenham Hotspur did not give recent further assurances to Antonio Conte before appointing the 52-year-old Italian as their new head coach.

Spurs' Managing Director of Football, Fabio Paratici, said on Wednesday the off-season was not the "right time", from Conte's perspective, to join after two years in charge at Inter Milan.
