6. SOUNDBITE (Russian) Dmitry Peskov, Russian Presidential spokesman:
"The situation (around Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant) is quite tense because the threat of sabotage by the Kyiv regime is indeed great. The sabotage can be catastrophic in its consequences. The Kyiv regime has repeatedly demonstrated its readiness to stop at nothing. Most recently, we saw this during the explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station, also with horrific consequences. Therefore, of course, all measures are being taken to counter such a threat."
STORYLINE:
Moscow sees no "particular grounds for extending" the grain deal, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters Wednesday, adding however, that the Kremlin is yet to announce its decision.

"There is still time to implement the part of the agreements that pertain to our country. So far, this part has not been fulfilled. And so at the moment, unfortunately, we don't see any particular grounds for extending this deal," Peskov said.

Peskov also dismissed reports that he described as "fiction" of Chinese President Xi Jinping warning Russia's Vladimir Putin against using nuclear weapons in Ukraine.

"I can only tell you that as a result of this important visit of President Xi to Russia, quite a lot of information was provided, and there were press statements. The essence of the talks was clearly set out in the documents adopted following the results of the statement,” he said.

The Kremlin spokesman also spoke about the situation around the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.

Peskov said it remains "tense" adding that Russian authorities are taking measures to counter "threats" of sabotage by Ukraine.
