Bicycle Repair Stands Tips and Hacks |
|
If you do any type of bicycle maintenance or bicycle repair, I strongly suggest a bike repair workstand. Here are a few quick tips for use on how to work on a bicycle using a repair stand as well as how to use a bicycle repair stand:
1. Always clamp at the SEATPOST (or if using a dropper post, extend the post and clamp) on your workstand and NOT the top tube or seat tube. Applying the clamp to other parts of the frame risk damage, especially with carbon fiber. The seat tube and top tube are built to resist the forces applied to it but not necessarily the force of the repair stand clamp. This is true for mountain bikes as well as road bikes. 2. Another problem with clamping the frame is when external cables are present which can be kinked or damaged by the clamp. 3. If you need to extend the seatpost to place it in the repair stand, place a piece of tape around the seat post just at the seatpost clamp before you extend the post. This way you can return it to its original height without any measurement. 4. Make sure you have a repair stand that has rubber jaws to prevent damage and scratching of the post. If not, use a small cloth around the seatpost when you clamp the bike to the stand. 5. Also, an adjustable height repair stand will make your job much easier. Also consider the maximum weight the stand can support as well as the stability when holding the bike. If you have an e bike, consider the bikehand e bike repair stand. |
