Here are some tips that you can practice to improve your shading. "value scale" and "Rain from heaven" techniques are really important exercises specially for a beginner. It helps to improve your control over the hand while moving the pencil. Once you have full control over the pressure you put on paper while shading and how you move your hand over the paper , your shading will improve at a great pace.
