In 1972, a Uruguayan flight crashes in the remote heart of the Andes, forcing survivors to become each other's best hope.

On October 12, 1972, a small chartered aircraft carrying a rugby team and their families crashed in the Andes Mountains. The plane was en route from Uruguay to Chile when it was caught in a snowstorm and forced to land on a glacier. Of the 45 people on board, 28 survived the initial impact.
The survivors were stranded on the glacier for 72 days without food, water, or shelter. They faced freezing temperatures, high winds, and the constant threat of avalanches. Many of them died of exposure, starvation, or injuries.
The remaining survivors decided to take drastic measures to save themselves. They ate the bodies of their dead friends and family members, and they used a metal pole to dig a tunnel under the snow to create a shelter.
On December 22, 1972, two search and rescue helicopters finally reached the survivors to save their lives. In total, 16 survivors were rescued.
The story of the survivors of the Andes Mountains is known as the Miracle of the Andes. It is a story of hope, courage, and resilience.
The survivors of the Andes Mountains endured unimaginable hardships, but they never gave up hope. Their story is an inspiration to us all.
