In 536 CE, a mysterious fog descended over much of Europe and Asia, causing widespread darkness and cold temperatures. This event is thought to have been caused by a massive volcanic eruption, possibly in Iceland or North America. The volcanic ash and other debris from the eruption blocked out much of the sunlight, leading to a drop in global temperatures and a disruption of the world's climate.
