Are you a slow reader? Don't worry. There's an easy way to read faster. You can learn speed reading techniques with practice. But... The fastest way to start reading faster is to simply use your hand, finger or pen as a pacer. Using a guide for your eyes is extremely helpful because your eyes are naturally attracted to motion. This is the simplest of all speed-reading techniques that you can start implementing right away without any practice. The interesting thing about this technique is that it will not only help you read faster, but you'll be reading faster with better comprehension. Speed reading techniques are not incredibly complicated. It's just a matter of applying the simple techniques. The reason why using your hand, finger or pen is helpful has to do with how your eyes move. There are 2 eye movements that all humans have: 1.) Saccadic 2.) Smooth Pursuit The Saccadic eye movement only happens when thing are stationary and not moving around. For example, when you are in a room and just moving your eyes around to look at things. Your eyes move in a "saccadic" fashion. This involves multiple saccades or fixations. These or micro-stop-and-go movements that your eyes will do when moving from one point to the other. The Smooth Pursuit eye movement is completely different. Instead of jittery, stop & go movements. This eye movement is very smooth. But it only happens when things are moving around. When you move your hand, finger or pen across the page, your eyes move in this "smooth pursuit" fashion (they have no other choice). The "smooth pursuit" eye movement lends itself to better focus. In other words, we pay more attention to things that move around. What if there were bees in your room RIGHT NOW! (don't panic) That would be a bit of a distraction. Because: bees And also because: movement Anything that moves around, gets our attention. So if we create some motion on the page while we're reading, we'll automatically have better focus and concentration while reading. We'll reading faster. AND... we'll have better comprehension. Because we're better focused on the information. This is the simplest speed reading technique you can start implementing asap. #speedreading #techniques #personalgrowth |
