Manchester City vs Schalke 04: Pep Guardiola's Best Available The Citizens Lineup |
|
Manchester City will welcome Schalke to the Etihad Stadium for the second leg of their Champions League last-16 clash on Tuesday. Pep Guardiola's side emerged with a 3-2 victory in the first leg, thanks to late goals from both Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane. However, given Ajax and Manchester United's recent comebacks in the competition, City will certainly be wary of allowing Schalke a route back into the tie. Here's how they could line up.Ederson (GK) - The Brazilian conceded two penalties in the first leg, so he will be especially keen to preserve his clean sheet this time around. Kyle Walker (RB) - Expect to see Walker play almost as a winger as City look to assert their dominance on their home turf. However, he cannot forget his defensive duties, as Schalke will certainly be pushing for goals. Aymeric Laporte (CB) - Nicolas Otamendi's red card in the first leg rules him out of this tie, meaning Laporte will be brought in to strengthen City's defence. Vincent Kompany (CB) - Laporte will likely play alongside Kompany, who has seen plenty of action in recent weeks following an injury to John Stones. Oleksandr Zinchenko (LB) - The 22-year-old has starred on the left side of City's defence this season, and he will be eyeing another impressive performance against Schalke. Ilkay Gundogan (DM) - With Fernandinho comprehensively ruled out due to both injury and suspension, Gundogan will be tasked with anchoring City's defence on Tuesday. Bernardo Silva (CM) - The younger of the two Silvas, Bernardo has excelled this season in the heart of City's midfield, and he will be looking for another dominant performance to guide City into the next round. David Silva (CM) - With Kevin De Bruyne picking up yet another injury, 33-year-old David Silva will be called upon to provide some real creativity in midfield. Raheem Sterling (RW) - City's saviour in recent weeks, Sterling has been in incredible form. After striking his side's late winner in the first leg, the winger netted a hat-trick against Watford to keep his side ahead in the race for the Premier League title. Guardiola will certainly want a similar performance from Sterling on Tuesday. Sergio Aguero (ST) - The prolific Argentine netted City's first goal in the first leg, and he will be looking to get himself on the score sheet once again. Leroy Sane (LW) - After his stunning free kick in the first leg, Sane will be hoping for another strong performance against his former side.
