Two Premier League clubs who were involved in surprise draws in their most recent competitive outings will be involved in what is forecasted to be one of the tightest contests of any major European league this weekend. After recently becoming the first and only club to take points home from Anfield twice in PL football since the start of 2021/22 after their 3-3 draw at Liverpool in the last round, Brighton and Hove Albion ought to feel confident after equalling their best seven-game start to a PL season (W4, D2, L1).

They could even leapfrog upcoming opponents Tottenham into third place with a 2+ goal victory - something they have achieved three times in their last five PL home outings (W4, D1). Manager Roberto de Zerbi, who was dubbed “the little genius” during his playing days in Italy, appears to have brought his success with Shakhtar Donetsk over to England, and his challenge is to keep this form going, especially as he’ll know that Brighton faded to ninth place in 2021/22 after winning four of their first five PL fixtures in that season.

Players to watch: Brighton forward Leandro Trossard was described by Alan Shearer as “simply magnificent” after recording Brighton’s inaugural PL hat-trick, which was also the first by a visiting PL player to Anfield since Andrey Arshavin for Arsenal in 2009. Whilst he’s at least a few seasons away from the milestone, Tottenham’s Harry Kane is making quick progress in chasing down Shearer’s all-time PL goalscoring record with goals in six of his last seven PL starts.
