MCC East Bay Becomes First Special-Need Friendly Masjid in California |
|
During Muslims Understanding and Helping Special Education Needs (Muhsen)'s visit to the San Francisco Bay Area in 2017, they officially certified MCC East Bay as the first masjid on the West Coast as special-needs friendly.
The designation came after an eight-month process in which MCC surveyed its congregation, acquired a Braille Qur'an, setup awareness tables at our events, discussed disability rights in our Khutbahs, and made our restrooms better wheelchair accessible. Muhsen staff also held a youth training workshop about respecting disability. Alhamdulillah, since 2017, the MCC East Bay is proud to be the first masjid on the West Coast to be certified as special-needs friendly. In 2019, MCC East Bay became the first gold-certified masjid in California. We are working hard now to become the first platinum-certified masjid on the West Coast. - More Muhsen co-sponsored events at MCC: https://mcceastbay.org/muhsen - More Muslim Community Center East Bay campaigns: http://mcceastbay.org/appeals - Support MCC East Bay: http://mcceastbay.org/operations Learn more about how we are privileged to accommodate our special needs community: https://mcceastbay.org/accommodating-disabilities This talk was delivered at the Muslim Community Center - East Bay (MCC East Bay) in Pleasanton, California, May 12, 2017.
