Islam's recognition of gender equity was revolutionary for its time, and its emphasis on women’s rights continues to be a source of strength for Muslim women today.

During her talk, Manaal shares a summary of Islam’s views on gender equity and unpacks the concept of “women’s empowerment,” which has traditionally focused on what women lack rather than the excellence they are born with.
Manaal Ali is a first-generation Muslim-American woman who is relearning and redefining what it means to be an impactful social activist. She takes inspiration from her faith, Islam, which is rooted in the principles of justice, authenticity, and kindness. Through the active practice of these values, Manaal hopes to foster change in the global women’s rights movement and inspire other young Muslim women to do the same.
